{The week of} Our Wedding

I'd like to do a little series about our wedding. It's a way to record a big moment in our life, and most importantly, a place where our future children can read about the way I felt to marry their father. :)

Our wedding week was a thrilling blur of errands and checklists. It was so fun to be at home for longer than the usual 2-3 days with my parents and brother. I had to make endless to-do lists, because I was constantly too excited to remember what I needed to do next.

My little brother, who was the bride's best man, was incredible! He looked for ways to help however he could, helped us stuff welcome bags, and made plans for a dance train at the reception. :)

The festivities officially began when our best friends starting getting into town. John and I kept saying, "this is really happening!" We felt honored and grateful to have so many wonderful people traveling from afar - Ann Arbor, Boston, Kansas City, New York, Kentucky, D.C., and Atlanta! It was incredibly powerful to feel such a strong network of support as we approached our marriage - we didn't think we were necessarily looking for any extra affirmation of our choice, but we certainly found it in the wholehearted support of the people closest to us. It was amazing.

I've said before that I never expected to be so excited to get married. I thought of it as a little bit cliche - something everyone does - something that I wanted, yes, but as far less important than finding your match and career. I thought I had seen too many people just go through the motions. Before our engagement, I didn't realize how exhilarating and joyful marriage was going to be. This has everything to do with finding the right person, of course, and nothing to do with finding the right dress.

But, okay, the dress part is really fun.

The exhilarating feeling I had about becoming John's wife reminds me of something Audrey Hepburn once said: "If I get married, I want to be very married."

Audrey was right. Very married is wonderful.
